About Our Territory
The Ts’elxwéyeqw Territory covers over 95 thousand hectares of land in southwestern BC. Our territory is rich in culture, natural beauty and resources and encompasses the entire Chilliwack River Valley including Chilliwack Lake, Chilliwack River, Cultus Lake areas, and parts of theChilliwack municipal areas. The territory is the ancestral home and spiritual realm of the Ts’elxwéyeqw communities of Ăthelets (Aitchelitz), Sq’ewqéyl (Skowkale), Shxwhá:y, Th’ewá:li (Soowahlie), Sxwoyehálá (Squiala), and Yeqwyeqwí:ws (Yakweakwioose). Our ancestors traveled the land to hunt, fish, and pick berries and the waterways were the highways and the vehicle of choice was the canoe.
